at 10.46am on february 3 1931, napier was levelled by a catastrophic earthquake (7.9 on the richter scale). the citizens started to rebuild the town in a new style: art deco – symbolizing the beginning of a new decade. unfortunately, most of the buildings are in a rundown condition. only a few have such an appealing appearance like the taradale town hall, situated in a suburb of napier.

the walden 7 complex in barcelona was build in 1975 by ricardo bofill. it is still a completely fascinating residential for nearly 450 units including shops, offices, bars and a swimming pool, even some table tennis courtyards!

the actual exhibition of “the house of hohenstaufen and italy” in mannheim, made me thinking of a project i photographed 10 years ago in apulia about the “castel del monte” and “frederick II”, the “first modern man on throne” and also the architect of the “crown of stone”
